More and more, gay couples are choosing to become parents. In doing so, they have two choices: adoption or surrogacy. There are plusses and minuses to both, of course, but there are three major advantages to surrogacy – three major reasons that, more and more, gay couples are turning to surrogate mothers to realize their dreams of having children.
3 Reasons for Gay Parents to Choose Surrogacy
The first is, of course, genetics. One member of a gay couple will, through surrogacy, be able to continue their genes in their child – to have a child that is genetically related to them, that is literally and biologically theirs.
The second is ease. Adoption agencies require rigorous paperwork and strict criteria to be met – for instance, they will often mandate that the adoptive family set aside a room in their house dedicated to the child, simply to begin the process. This can be a real burden.
And the third is speed. Surrogacy typically takes 3-4 months in order to set up, and another nine months for the pregnancy; the couple will have their baby in, at most, a little over a year. Meanwhile, adoption processes can last 3-4 years.
